Sashes are issued only to persons entered in the Register of Honours and Appointments. The grade of the holder is indicated by the number of stripes at the lower edge: one for the fourth grade, three for the first. Sashes are worn from the right shoulder.

Conditions of issuance
- Entitlement lapses on the vacation of office and the sash is retained by the former holder as a keepsake.
- Sashes are worn from the right shoulder to the left hip.
- The Registrar may decline issuance where the applicant does not appear in the register.
